Salmon Watch Ireland awarded costs in case against South Western Regional Fisheries Board Friday 20th March 2009
On Wednesday 11th March the substantive case in an injunction taken against the South Western Regional Fisheries Board by Salmon Watch Ireland and the Kerry Angling Federation to prevent draft net fishing for salmon in Castlemaine Harbour, Co Kerry was heard in the High Court before Mr Justice Hedigan. Salmon Watch Ireland makes complaint to the EU Commission about Irish salmon farms. Friday 20th February 2009
Salmon Watch Ireland has lodged a formal complaint with the European Commission about the Irish management regime for salmon farms. The complaint contends that the farms are responsible for the generation of high levels of sea lice infestation in juvenile salmon (generally called smolts) migrating from rivers to their feeding grounds in the sea. Research in Ireland, Norway and Scotland has established that the mortality of smolts is significantly affected by sea lice infestation.... See full text here...
